Pathfinder Studio
| Description | Pathfinder Studio (formerly Propagation) is a high-performance pathfinding engine collection developed in Excel / VBA. The application is designed to determine the lowest-cost path between a start point and an end point within a 2D or 3D grid featuring varied movement costs and obstacles. Pathfinder Studio can also compute the most direct route in uniform, zero-cost grids containing obstacles (where obstacle cells = -1)—the classic maze and video game pathfinding problem. As a dedicated pathfinder, this tool solves the classic mathematical shortest-path problem. Its algorithms are admissible and optimal, guaranteeing that they will always find the absolute best route (or one of the equivalent best routes if multiple solutions exist). It includes 3 distinct, ready-to-use pathfinding modules designed for simple integration (requiring minimal parameters and featuring simple sample code showing how to call each function): Dijkstra’s Algorithm (1959): Handles 2D grids with Double precision cost values. Dial’s Algorithm (1969): Handles 2D grids with Integer cost values. Dial’s Algorithm (3D): Handles 3D grids with Integer cost values. Grid cell values can be set to:
Three movement modes are supported:
The pathfinding engines are designed to allow input grids to be stored on a dedicated worksheet while displaying and exploiting output results across one or multiple other worksheets. |
